Luis Monroy-Gómez-Franco.

I am currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and an External Associate Researcher at the Centro de Estudios Espinosa Yglesias (CEEY). I have a Ph.D. in Economics from The Graduate Center of The City University of New York.

My research interests are at the intersection of development, labor, and stratification economics, focusing mainly on social mobility and inequality of income and opportunities. I deeply believe that the economy does not operate in a vacuum, which implies that it is necessary to incorporate historical and institutional factors into the analytical framework with which we study the dynamics of distribution and production observed in the economy. This cuts through both analyses at the macro and the micro levels, as institutions shape the opportunity spaces and constraints in which individuals operate.
